Because the higher PRSI rate applies to the whole week once pay goes over €552, a few extra hours can add more cost than the pay itself. A worker on €14.15 an hour for 39 hours earns €551.85 and stays on 9.15%. Add one hour of overtime and the whole week moves to 11.40%.
From 1 October 2027 employer PRSI rises again, to 11.55% and 9.30%, with the threshold moving to €600 a week. Auto-enrolment contributions step up to 3% from 2029. The calculator switches to new rates on the day they start.
